Hotel Levante is located in the fairly quiet area of Cala Bona – an hour’s drive from Palma airport. Cala Bona, on the east coast of Mallorca, is a popular destination for holiday makers particularly for those who enjoy a relaxing, mellow get-away. The harbour area is a short walk from the hotel and there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained.
Hotel Levante is a Thomson Gold 4-star accommodation on the island of Mallorca, exclusively for adults – particularly aimed at couples and small groups.
The half-board package includes breakfast and dinner in the large air-conditioned dining room which overlooks the sea at one end. There is a good choice at breakfast, which is self-service, with both continental and hot cooked items. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water and juice is all available. Friendly chefs are on hand to cook fried or poached eggs and even omelettes to order.
The buffet -style evening meal has a wide choice of excellent food to suit all tastes. Each night features local specialities and international cuisines along with English favourites.
The Rooms at Hotel Levante
All ‘standard rooms’ at Hotel Levante are air-conditioned with a balcony and have all the basic essentials you would expect – TV, telephone, small fridge and hairdryer. The ‘superior rooms’, which overlook the sea and pool, have tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes, flowers, and fruit and wine on arrival.
Our standard twin-bedded room on the third floor was positioned at the end corner of the hotel, meaning the balcony was overlooking the terrace and the sea, giving us the best of both worlds.
Sunbathing and Relaxing at the Hotel
Hotel Levante has a number of areas available for relaxing and sunbathing: the swimming pool, the beach and the roof sun-deck.
As with many hotels abroad, it can be hard to get a sun-bed around the pool after 9am as the majority of guests reserve a place with their towels before sunrise – despite the hotel’s signs asking residents not to do so.
The sun-deck on the third floor roof is a great spot for die-hard sun worshippers. Three canopies open out to provide much-needed shade when the sun’s rays get a little too hot.
Although there is no pool to dip in and out of on the sun-deck, the indoor Jacuzzi allows sunbathers to cool down every now and then. The glass balcony around the deck gives you a fantastic view of the Med.
Hotel Levante by the Beach
The beach can be accessed via the steps next to the pool area. There is a 10 euro charge for two sun-beds and a parasol for the day, which you may seem surprised to hear. This is because it is a private beach and not owned by the hotel but nonetheless it is worth paying for if you don’t want the hassle of getting up early to reserve a pool-side space. After all, you are on holiday.
Hotel Levante’s Gala Evenings
The staff put on a delightful themed gala dinner twice a week – during our two week stay we enjoyed a Chinese theme, Mallorcan theme and a British theme. The staff members make an extra special effort on these particular nights not just with the food, but with the spectacular display, which features carved out vegetables in the form of animals.
First Class Entertainment at Hotel Levante
Each night, Hotel Levante provides a programme of entertainment on the outside terrace including quizzes and bingo. After the resident singer and keyboardist duo have performed, a cabaret act takes the stage. As our room overlooked the terrace, we were able to watch the entertainment from the comfort of our balcony with tributes such as Rod Stewart and The Beatles, as well as comedians and classical musicians.
Thomson Holidays sum up Hotel Levante in one sentence, saying: “This hotel regularly scores 90% or more in our customer questionnaires. And with a beachside setting, great food and fabulous entertainment, it’s easy to see why.”
